Continuing on now with the outing on January 4th. The snow kinda delayed this post LOL.
This gully was on the far side of a pond. The bank at this point were not steep. So we could easily find our way in.
Of course we quickly headed down into the gully!
A white fungus had frosted the Atrichum moss. And it really did look like frost!
A Russula mushroom was plastered with oak leaves.
Another recent visitor in the gully, a squirrel!
A puffball that looked different.
Each spot dimpled the puffball!
A really big tangle of a grapevine!
A yellow Chrysothrix lichen highlighted the crack in bark in a fallen tree. The Chrysothrix lichens are reported rarely having apothecia (fruiting bodies). Indeed, I haven’t noticed any apothecia before. Its entire body is made of the asexual soredia (granules that have fungal hyphae wrapped with algae).
Puffball lace is great!
It was!
The puffball looks very similar to a cantaloupe – interesting!
It was a bit different and yeah it does look a bit like a cantaloupe. 🙂
Love the fern in the bottom of the gully
