Nearly Hidden

Saturday morning I thought…last warmish day for awhile. Hmmm, I will see if Jeanne wanted to go out on short notice. Yes, she was in!

What? Sometimes we find the strangest things.
The grass had been woven like a French braid. Maybe someone was bored. LOL.

Back again to check on the Funaria serrata moss in the prairie!

They were certainly maturing!
Next it was back down to look at the Jelly Babies (Leotia lubrica). However all I was seeing was the bright yellow of half eaten acorns. I was about to be sad if something had eaten them.
Well, the Fissidens was easy to see. 😉

Whew, they were still there but had changed color a bit. And a leaf had half covered them!
For scale. The units are centimeters. So that means they were only 3 cm high or 3 or barely over an inch! And this is as large as the Jelly Babies get.
One Russula mushroom stood out. While another was almost hidden.

Watch where you step!

More tomorrow on Saturday’s outing.

  1. So many finds that day but the braided grass was certainly unique and so unexpected. Is a mystery as to who and why someone took the time to make that braid.

  2. The braided grass looked like wildrye, at least in part. Interesting. I love that the ruler measuring the jelly babies says “Documenting Change”. 😃
