It had rained overnight (Dec. 14th). And the sky had cleared for a very nice cool sunny morning. We were off to explore near the campsite.
Near the restrooms was the most lovely Rusty Blackhaw loaded with berries!
The rain drops from the overnight’s rain were still clinging.
We headed to the lakeside. A rock in water looked like a dog swimming.
The water was crystal clear. Yep another lakeside creature. LOL.
We had run out of shoreline. So we headed up a ditch. Old trees twist. And this cedar was twisted. So I guess that meant it was old?
The pretty pink spoke to me. 🙂 And I can see a shark face on the right. 😉
Definitely a crocodile!
A small rock seemed to be shouting at us. 😉
A grasping hand!
The cedars, unlike what I find in Wise County, had a ton of lichens and mosses like this Leucodon moss.
An orange jelly fungus next to a lichen with black cilia (looks like whiskers) on the margins perhaps a Parmotrema!
Here was a great find above the bank. This looks to be the same moss that Jeanne and I recently found in Wise and Montague Counties. Jeanne thinks it may be Funaria serrata. They have a costa (resembles a center vein) and the upper half of the leaf has teeth.
But holy cow, this one had the inserted capsules! I will definitely be on the lookout at the grasslands for capsules soon!
No, we are staying at an AirBNB tiny house in Sulphur. Our tent camping days are over LOL. But our RVing friends are staying in the same camping loop as you – Buckhorn Loop C! Maybe the park closes some of the other camping areas in the winter.
Beautiful camp loop. And if you and your friends walk to the lake or if you prefer drive on the loop D you can get to the lake shore easier. You might see some loons!
That is one scary crocodile! Glad there were friendly critters too.
Think I found some of the same Funaria that may be developing capsules too – wait and see!
Wow! So many critters in that place. That jelly fungus is so pretty and i didn’t know old trees twisted. Thats really interesting.
Very cool place! 🙂
It was so neat how the cedars had more friends growing on them, for sure.
And I wonder why???
Which campground were you in? We are meeting some friends there who are camping.
Buckhorn loop C
Are you camping with your friends?

Cool! I will check the grasslands ones too in a day or so.
