On this past dreary Sunday, we headed over to Hagerman NWR ! The Jack Chiles report on Texbirds listserve said there were quite a few geese. Off we went!
So here the geese were! They were located in the field below the visitor’s center! Indeed cool! Thanks Jack for your reports!
Now was time to look for the dabbler ducks!
Around the corner at the lake’s edge we saw the ducks! I believe these are Green-winged Teal. I am a bit rusty on my ducks so to confirm my ID a consultation was in order. Claire and Paula thanks for the consult!
Pareidolia strikes again. The root looked like a big mosquito! LOL.
The common cute Coots (Fulica americana ) are always a favorite for me. These are actually not ducks but a member of the rail family. Moreover these rails are much easier to see because they often can be found swimming in the open water.
Northern Shovelers and Northern Pintails too!
Was this Great Blue Heron a hybrid? 🙂 I mean really with that crown raised up like a woodpecker. LOL.
Love the dabbling ducks with their rears giving everyone the moon. LOL. These were Pintails.
More tomorrow from Hagerman !

What a wonderful place. Coots are one of my favorites, if i have a favorite. So cute.
A ducky day!
So clever to study pollen for insect migration. And to think that the painted ladies flew over the Atlantic – remarkable!
Will need to study the grass article – looks great.
The shoveler Is my favorite!
