A New Guest

On Thursday, we had both sunshine and clouds.

Was it going to grow larger? Finger for measurement on the first day I found this puffball.
Two days later it had gotten bigger. So I will check again soon.
A Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata) which still had flowers, but most of leaves had fallen. This is the larval host for several of the Sulphur butterflies. Additionally nectaring bees and ants and birds share in the bounty of the Partridge Pea.
Just love the yellow and red!

Find the skipper!

A close up of the Sachem skipper above. 🙂
Storm clouds were gathering. However no rain came from these on Thursday.
Split-beard bluestem (Andropogon ternarius) is the grass with the fuzzies here.
The Split-beard Bluestem closeup!

A screech owl was a new guest for our water hole! And the first owl recorded by our wildlife camera! Pretty awesome! And definitely a nice addition to our species list at the water.

  1. Saw the skipper but it also seemed to me that all the leaf galls looked like so many pairs of eyes looking for the skipper too!
    So cool about the owl!
