More Fun-gals Hunting

On September 10th, Jeanne joined up with me for a “fun gals” outing. I still had an itch for fungi (fun-guy). 🙂 Off we headed!

The location once again was in a woodland bottoms.

Jeanne spotted the first! It was old and sporting a colorful look of a Ganoderma species. The green mold was moving in.

The underside also had some mold.

A shelf fungus that has a hairy top! It was a Hexagonia hydnoides. It is a common shelf fungus that is found in the southern US and south. It can be found growing alone or gregariously on the deadwood of hardwoods; causing a white rot; appearing year-round.

Here nothing was going to stop it from growing!

Nice fall colors!

Growing at the base of a tree, another Ganoderma fungus with spectacular colors!

Love this view!

Indeed the fun-gals and fungi (fun-guy) were off to a good start!
