Day 4 Restful

On the fourth day, we decided to stick close again to the camp. However, it would be just as great for seeing new stuff we soon found.

The Clove Currant (Ribes aureum) was in bloom! This species is the same one we have in North Texas.

A Chocolate Daisy or Lyreleaf Greeneyes (Berlandiera lyrata) was blooming. It was the only one we saw. We were glad we took the Vista Trail to right that time. Texas Greeneyes (Berlandiera betonicifolia) is the common species in North Texas.
The Lyreleaf Greeneyes (Berlandiera lyrata) has bright red veins on the back of the petals.

A few hundred feet up the trail, two Canyon Towhees were active! The Canyon Towhee sports a brownish cap. Exciting find!

Claire took the opportunity to do a quick sketch!

The sun highlighted the old milkweed leaf!

Ravens were often seen!

Sticking to our more restful day, Claire and I decided to just sit and observe in the afternoon.
Claire focused on the Skunkbush (Rhus trilobata) to draw and watch for insects. This is also a plant that can found in North Texas.

Black ants visited us both. 🙂

It had been a great day staying closer to camp! And we had an exciting evening lined up which I will share in the next post. 🙂 I know you can bearly wait. 😉

Keep looking!
