Back to LMWSP – part 1

I decided I should try to see Tiny Tim (Geocarpon minimum) in person before it was too late for this season. Moreover, I find it helpful to see the subject in hand. For this reason, it allows me to get a better feel for it and the environment it lives in. And Tiny Tim is known to be in the LMWSP area. It was March 28th.

So arrangements were made and I was up early to meet Jeanne in Decatur. So we headed down to Lake Mineral Wells State Park.

The clouds were awesome as we arrived at the park. We were meeting with David Owens, Assistant Park Superintendent. David was going to drive us to some of the places I described to him as likely habitats for Tiny Tim.

David’s first spot. The Lace Cactus (Echinocereus reichenbachii)!

The pebbles were covered with lichens!

Of course, we were looking carefully for the tiny. This was not Tiny Tim. No clue to identity.

The Lace Cactus (Echinocereus reichenbachii) were getting their flower buds!

A tiny pebble with a tinier pebble frosting!

Another interesting layered pebble!

Sedum or Texas Stonecrop (Sedum pulchellum) was in this area, a known plant that is often near Tiny Tim.

No luck yet for Tiny Tim.

Keep looking!

The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know
