Nourishment

The ravine proved to be tangled in Greenbriar and other thick vegetation. So instead we crossed the ravine to continue on.

We did stop and look at the sides to see the mosses and squamulose lichens.

Jeanne checks it out.

Under the oak, I noticed these gall-like things.

Any ideas anyone?

Thallose liverwort clung to the edge amongst the moss!

Close view!

Love the fall colors of the sumac (Rhus)!

First of five golf balls! The nearby property owner must have had some long shots.

Stopping at young Blackjack, we found these small skinny galls!

Asp! Also known as Southern Flannel Moth (Megalopyge opercularis).

A third Asp! Where was the second photo of the second Asp? Well, as I was trying to get a photo, the twig broke free from our grasp. It went flying to who knows where! Lucky for us, it did not land on one of us. 🙂 Indeed, this Blackjack was a three asp tree. LOL

Additionally, on the Blackjack we found some newly hatched Lynx spiders!

Like any good parent, it was standing guard! The adult will not eat anymore. So it is on its last legs of life. They only live for a year.

Other creatures have been on the Blackjack as well.

Our last find on the Blackjack, were these small fuzzy galls! Indeed, the Blackjack has provided nourishment and shelter for many!

Keep looking!
