Fungi and a couple of insects

We got another .23′ last night. Well, of course I had to keep my eye for more fungi!

A pretty little pleated mushroom that looked like the wind had turned it inside out like an umbrella. 😉

More fungus and mold! Mold is a subset in the kingdom of fungi. Both have hyphae. See this link for more details. And yes there is some green foliose lichens, mosses, and maybe liverwort on the stump as well.

Starting on the left, this mold was taken over another mold!

In the middle, a Ganoderma shelf fungus with white mold on top. Doesn’t it look like a deep sea creature with two eyes bulging out?

Last on the right, another Ganoderma with more invading white mold!

Dark eyes starring back LOL. These are probably the holes made by a wasp or a beetle. We did not see anyone.

More mold! This time it was a pretty blue-green!

Same stump from above, but this is what it looked like in the afternoon. A dramatic color change, eh!

Finally, this little guy snuck in with me. It is the Blackberry Looper (Chlorochlamys chloroleucaria). Its larva will feed on blackberries and various composite flowers. It can be found east of the Rockies. There are at least two generation per year.

One last shot before sending it back outside! What interesting antennas!

Keep looking!

The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know.
