Lost Creek

The Lost Creek Trail is the name of trail we walked on at Ft. Richardson SP. There are several other trails to select from as well. Some day, maybe I will get to all them.

Looking from the trail through the trees, I saw water in Lost Creek! Several sliders dipped under the water. The dark spot was a small slider I caught before it dove.

Gracie and Jim walked ahead of me. So they had to wait for me to catchup several times. Gracie appreciated the rest stops.

A foliose lichen that has a yellowish hint to it likely has usnic acid as part of its’ makeup.

The funnel spider’s web was so shiny from the damp weather. It reminds me of taut cling-wrap.

Moss covered ledges were standouts!

I had been hopeful from my earlier view of the creek that water was still running. However, soon I found the creek was lost. πŸ™

This gray lichen might look dead or dying, but it is not.

Here was a different patch, but mostly likely the same Dermotocarpon genus as the gray lichen above. It was wetter so you can see that the algae just under the thallus (skin) shines through.

A lichen covered crinoid fossil!

And no matter your speed…

The Lost Creek Trail always has something to see and be amazed by.

And Gracie says it can certainly put a smile on your face!

Keep looking!

The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know.

    1. I don’t know the answer to either of your questions. We didn’t go anywhere but on the Lost Creek Trail. Gracie was pretty well used up. And I don’t recall about beavers there before. Were they on the creek? What part? Guess I will have to go back and check it out. πŸ˜‰

  1. Sweet Gracie! Fort Richardson is an easy drive for me – about the same distance as to the Grasslands. If you ever want to meet up there let me know.
