A new weevil?

Whoa, was the temperature ever great today! When I got up this morning, it was 79 degrees. I am not sure when the front got here, but I noticed at noon that it had dropped to 73 degrees. Then I took Gracie for a walk and I even wore a light jacket. This is more like spring, eh!

Now getting right to it. 😉 This little tiny 3mm weevil (Snout and Bark Beetles (Curculionidae)) was on a Western Horse Nettle. So nothing unusual about that. However, I noticed something different this time.

Oh my gosh I thought! Did I find a different type of weevil? Well, it turns out no. For some reason I never have noticed the club antennas on the beak. And the antennas are bent too. Going back to my photo collection, I saw almost all my photos show this type of antennas. LOL. Learn something new everyday 🙂

Furthermore, because I was trying to get the good shot of the antennas, I watched it plunge its beak into the anthers in multiple places!

Indeed, it was most fascinating watching the little weevil grasp and move around the anthers! According to Wikipedia, there are 6,800 genera worldwide. So the next time you see a weevil, take a closer gander!

So this is the end!

  1. Im betting all critters have a language. Especially apes. We arent as special as we think we are. Imagine the white cliffs of dover being made up of fossils. Cool. Now i want to see them up close.

  2. It would be cool to see the Dover cliffs. I bet you need a special scope to see the fossils tho, maybe.
