Make a wish?

Last night we caught the western edge of storm that came barreling down from the north. Even though we only ended up with .24″ of rain, I ain’t complaining. 😉 Denton got more and perhaps those of you in Dallas got some. Hope so!

An excellent way to start the day, at least Gracie thinks so LOL.

This is some of the brightest yellow slime mold I have seen. That being said, I wondered if it is a different species than the regular Dog Vomit Slime Mold. I just don’t know, but whatever it is a beauty!

A Tawny Emperor was trying to hide under a leaf!

A second Organ Pipe Mud Dauber emerged today! This one got its freedom!

Since February this was its home! A studio apartment I guess LOL.

Clasping-leaf Coneflowers (Rudbeckia amplexicaulis). Maybe you can see how the leaves clasp around the stem.

All stages of a Texas Dandelion (Pyrrhopappus) is just beautiful!

Really a mess of Ratany (Krameria lanceolata)!

A front close up!

A side view!

Make a wish? Well, that is what I thought. 😉 However, it is thought to be a defensive mechanism. This behavior is believed to be simulating movement of a twitchy antennae. The thought being that it is better to lose a tail verses its head. Researcher Dr. Andrei Sourakov (University of Florida) suggested it might be good defense against jumping spiders as well. The jumping spider usually goes for the front to inject its venom into the thorax. So perhaps, that is hairstreak’s wish, to live another day :-)! (Source: Gray Hairstreak Butterfly)
