A quick scout

To prepare for the upcoming First Wednesday outing, I took a quick trip over to the LBJ NG. I needed to see what was going on and the road conditions.

The Standing Winecup (Callirhoe pedata) are looking pretty good! However, all the plants seem to be several weeks behind for blooming.

A close up of the Standing Winecup! Notice the petals are fringed unlike the Common Winecup (Callirhoe involucrata). Standing Winecup is partial to limestone rocky soils.

Beetles were hard at work on this Standing Winecup!

A few of the Antelope Horns (Asclepias asperula ssp capricornu) were starting to bloom. The bumblebees were happy about that I’m sure!

And then it was gone!

Two-leaf Senna (Senna roemeriana) has a few more days before it will be blooming.

The Ratany (Krameria lanceolata) might be sticking its tongue out at me LOL! So while the flowers were not going gangbusters yet, it won’t be long.

Keep looking!

The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know.
