The Frosted Elfin survey is continuing on this week. So today, I headed back to Bonham State Park to make camp!
Gracie (much to her delight) got to come as well!
The tender new leaves of a Red Oak (Quercus)!
Eve’s Necklace (Styphnolobium affine) was along side the park road!
It was almost ready to flower!
Gracie and I headed down the Gnarly Root Trail.
Rattan Vine (Berchemia scandens)!
At the base of a tree, was a nest of rolypoly bugs!
Dropping Gracie off back at the camp, I continued on. This bumblebee found the Prairie Verbena yum!
My mission was to find this plant, Blue Wild Indigo (Baptisia australis var minor)! They were right where Linda, (most helpful park person) told me they would be.
They are almost ready to flower. Maybe before I leave they will. This species likes a more clayish soil and is found in variable sun and shade at edges. The other, I found on the previous trip, Yellow Wild Indigo (Baptisia sphaerocarpa) likes a sandy loam and more in the open. Tomorrow, I will continue the search, but on the Caddo NG.
I’m glad Gracie was able to fit you into her schedule!!
She was too😂
The bumblebee on verbena is a prize winning picture.
Thanks!
Bumblebee is my fave photo here (besides the lovely Gracie, that is!).
😊
