What did we decide to do?
As we neared the survey spot I had chosen for the day, the sleet and sprinkles were spitting at us on and off. And the car was nice and warm.
So now the plan was to plot the gates in the warm car for the 12 tracts on the Ladonia Unit. Sounds much warmer eh!
Of course, we were on the lookout for interesting stuff on the roadside like this shelf fungus!
Also useful information like this example…the end of a road. On the map, it showed a road that kept going. Watch out for those maps!
Daffodils suggests there was once a homestead here.
Next, a quick step out the car to get this mistletoe berry.
Mosses and violets were in the ditch behind the mistletoe.
Moss covered a fallen Bois D’arc.
Roadside Possumhaw!
The roadside Mexican Plums were much further along than here in Wise County. In brief, the alternate plan was working out so far. More tomorrow!
The brains that launched GPS
Mirror beetles’ shiny bodies may not act as camouflage after all
Keep looking!
The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know.
Up here in Oklahoma my tiny Mexican plum has little green leaf buds
Looking here (LBJ Grasslands) for signs of spring: first complete bluebird nest today, very first blossoms on the wild plums. It’s coming!
I hope my plums hold off blooming for two more days. They look like they’re about to pop. Freeze is coming!
Those beetles are beautiful. Interesting article below that bout water beetles
Thanks all for the reports. Yeah, can’t put away the long johns quite. I hope this will be the last hard freeze/snow/ice/sleet event. I missed the wild plums last year.
