Snailseed
Do you ever wonder where some of the common names for things come from? Yellow-rumped Warbler, Red-headed Woodpecker, Shooting-star (Dodecatheon meadia) Snake Herb (Dyschoriste linearis) or Texas Bluestar (Amsonia ciliata var texana) all seem to be obvious to me, Sometimes you might think the person was crazy such as is the case for Bastard Toadflax (Comandra umbellata ssp allida). Snailseed Vine (Cocculus carolinus) is a vine that is easy to figure out once you know where to look for the why.

Strip away the red fruit and here is the seed. Sorta resembles a snail shell; so there you have it, Snailseed.
Can you find the butterfly?
Goatweed leafwing (Anaea andria) is hard to spot.
The birds have not quite gotten all the Pokeberry’s (Phytolacca americana) berries yet. Poisonous to humans but yum for the birds.
