We all want a roof over our heads. How we do it with the available resources is the question. So onwards with the Monday outing which will include a few “roofs”!
Wow I say on this grasshopper’s color! It is a nymph of the Bird Grasshoppers (Schistocerca)!
Hmmm what is going on, where is my roof. In the book Grasshoppers, Katydids and Crickets of the United States, they are called the spurthroated grasshoppers. Here in this photo you can see the spur under its chin.
Doesn’t this look like the tree is decorated with Christmas ornaments? Here the galls make their own homes! And for the tree no harm. Furthermore, everyone wins!
I call this the hairy gall. Indeed I often can find them on a Live Oaks!
The water was much deeper earlier this year. This section is near where it goes into a small lake on private property. You can see where turtles or something made the vegetation part.. Kinda looks like tire tracks LOL. As the results of the rain over the last couple of days, I imagine the water level has risen!
Many parts of the creek bed was dry on the day we were there.
Surely this old tree would have a story to tell if it could talk. Now it provides different kinds of shelters for other creatures.
This old tree reveals the twisting in the trunk. This tree had a long life and still offers shelter for many.
Often we come across interesting “trash”. If the “trash” is older than fifty years, it is considered a historical artifact. In this example, a hood from a pickup. So the critters have found a roof for their home.
Maybe not hood on second thought…maybe a piece of farm equipment.
