At the half way mark and still no sign of my sunglasses. Maybe my luck would change.
The crab spider had no suggestions on where I should look.
I can’t even see the Eggplant Tortoise Beetle (Gratiana pallidula) mouth. No help there in my quest.
This little one had been a sleep. Or do spiders even sleep? They don’t have eyelids…hmmm.
Over at the frogfruit (Phyla) the grasshopper nymph had nothing to say. Indeed they just turned their back and hop away.
Well, no one was talking so I stopped to admire the Big-top Dalea (Dalea enneandra). It might seem wispy and not very bold.
But how pretty!
So why wouldn’t you just love this plant! 🙂
The petals had all fallen but the seed head of the Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa var mollis) was stunning!
The Hairy Sunflower (Helianthus hirsutus) with a geometer inchworm! Was the petal pointing the way? Was this its way of talking that I had missed.
Anytime now the Western Ironweed (Vernonia baldwinii) will be blooming. The aphids and ants were a bit preoccupied.
My last stop was at the Standing Cypress (Ipomopsis rubra) with its blue/purple pollen. No one was visiting. And the anthers still had a lot of pollen.
When I got back to the car, my new chicken friend bid me farewell. Actually I thought she might be considering jumping in the car. So I told her hurry back home before the coyotes get you. Good luck friend!
So I had finished re-tracing my steps but no luck on the sunglasses. Perhaps they were hidden in some of the deep coastal grass on the spillway. Hopefully they found a new home. I was not too disappointed because they were just cheapies. 🙂 Besides it was mostly an excuse to go back.
The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know

Maybe a cottontail has absconded with the sunglasses – or maybe the chicken?
The detail and colors of the closeup is wonderful. Who would have very thought purple and red would look so perfect together.

I do love Dalea enneandra. Both the flowers and the name. Enneandra is one of my favorite scientific names.
Shame no one told you where your sunglasses were. The bergamot seedhead is stunning
