Hilltop Outing

Another First Wednesday outing had rolled around on March 5th. It was sunny, though a bit chilly with a pretty good breeze. I had picked a spot that was on a hilltop.

The sky was clear and we could see for miles. In fact you could see the rock quarries way off in the distance to the west.
Wild Plums (Prunus) had burst into flowering right next to the parking area!

We jumped right in finding cool stuff. And everyone was dressed warmly.

A White Checkered Skipper stopped in at the Cymopterus (Vesper macrorhizus). This plant is special to the limestone barrens!

Indeed the wind and chilly weather did not stop us from enjoying the grasslands! (Photo by Jerry)

It had been a grand outing on the hilltop!

  1. Love the ” long ago dinosaur” name – so appropriate. Of course the library bats are really cool too but I am glad I’m not the one cleaning up the tables and floors every day!
