Lots of Dew

Two days of really nice weather eh! And I took advantage of both days. 🙂

The lichens have been really pretty in the damp mornings. And with my getting back to lichens I collected this one to study. Since the soredia (granules on the lobe tips) looked yellowish I had hope the medulla (the inside layer) would be yellow. However it was not. ;-(
A pretty julaceus type moss!
A Turban Cap Lichen (Cladonia peziziformis) was extra bright with the dew!
Thalloid liverwort turning purplish!
Gorgeous red capsules!
And just like the grass, I got some wet trousers.

When we started out this morning it was fairly warm. But by mid-afternoon the wind turned to the north. And the temps started to drop. But not enough to chill us. It had been another good day at the grasslands!

  1. That dewy grass is wonderful!
There appear to be two different mosses in that photo – one likely fissidens, not sure about the other. the capsules are so colorful.
