Foggy

This was not the forecast for the First Wednesday outing. But that is what we got overcast to foggy. And still it turned out great!

The First Wednesday meeting place was Clear Lake.
Using the spotting scope the ducks were located.
Everyone was looking at the ducks, but me. I had hoped to find a shorebird like a Wilson’s Snipe or a Killdeer. No such luck for me. (Photo by Jerry)
If the ducks had not been there, we still would have found good stuff. For example this beautiful thistle (Cirsium) covered in dew!
Our next stop was Black Creek Lake where the Black Vultures were roosting.
On another tree to the right were a pair of Double-crested Cormorants!
Canada Geese left the peninsular cussing as they went.
A couple of Ring-billed Gulls put on aerial show.
We turned to look back. We were seeing bluebirds, woodpeckers, and robins!
Then as we moved close an immature Red-headed Woodpecker was spotted among a host of other bird species!

Jerry wearing his Muck boots felt his way across the dam with his pole. We all watched to see if he was going to fall in. He did not. Well I might have laugh if he had. πŸ˜‰
We all watched Marcie head down to look for beaver tracks. Suzanne followed shortly. (Photo by Jerry. Thanks Jerry!)
Beaver tracks were found by Marcie and Suzanne! Well then more of us went down too. πŸ™‚
Stomachs were growling. the fog was getting thicker. Additionally it was time to call it a day. Some were heading home. And some of us headed to the Greenwood store for lunch.

A beautiful birding day it had turned out.

  1. Wonderful birding day – so many different birds! The beaver dam and red headed woodpecker definitely highlights of the day.
