A Narrow-leaf Gayfeather (Liatris punctata var mucronata ) had twirling leaves.
Look careful for the Nodding Ladies-tresses (Spiranthes cernua ) now before they are gone!
The snag looked back at us with its pouty eyes. 😉
A beat-up Autumn Meadowhawk (Sympetrum vicinum ) had a bent tail.
This pond did not have as clear as water as some of the earlier encountered ponds. Still the sumac’s reflection could be seen.
Water beetles on a pond!
Ok, these meadows with the Liatris and the Threeawn continued to delight me.
Stopping for a sip at the Narrow-leaf Gayfeather (Liatris punctata var mucronata )!
Any of the trails in the grasslands are sure to delight. And November 17th is National Take a Hike Day!

Hooray for goldfinches! Will be on the lookout.
Emily is lucky to have you as her mentor. Now I’m watching for goldfinches here.
Makes me happy to have a young sharp eyed person coming along!
Great water beetles photo! I’m putting out my goldfinch feeders this weekend. And I loved the gopher article. I’ve enjoyed my own pocket gophers for many years and have even seen youngsters playing (above ground of course).
Cool to watch youngsters playing! Lucky you
