Hop on Board!

A beautiful cool Monday morning on the LBJ grasslands!

A Snake Herb (Dyschoriste linearis)! Their season for blooming is mostly April thru July. However occasionally in the fall when conditions are right you can find them like this one. In fact, we saw multiple of the Snake Herbs blooming.

The beautiful Great Plains Ladies-tresses (Spiranthes magnicamporum)! They prefer an upland prairie soil.

A crab spider had a catch!

A duck decoy was moored in the mud at a pond. The pond still had water but was low.
Top view of a Nodding Ladies-tresses (Spiranthes cernua)!

The seed head of a Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa var mollis).

Daddy Shortlegs Harvestmen (Opiliones) covered in red mites. So the mites are known to use the Harvestmen as transportation.
A second one said hop on board too! Ok, I really don’t know if the Daddy Shortlegs likes this arrangement or not. However both of these guys certainly found a nest of mites that hitched a ride.

  1. This looks like a book worth reading and sharing – just skimmed the few pages with the “gift economy” idea. So true that gratitude and reciprocity are most important.
