Color Variations

Nature never fails to impress!

Few flowers remain on the Blue Sage (Salvia azurea var grandiflora).
Yep Leavenworth’s Eryngo (Eryngium leavenworthii) is drying up too.

Fall Armyworm Moth (Spodoptera frugiperda), I think. At least it is Noctuid! 😉

Really had it face buried in the Palofoxia!
What a delightful color combo. This species also has a lot of variation in the colors.
The Spotted Cucumber Beetle (Diabrotica undecimpunctata) can be found on many plants. Do you wonder why the common name? I guess people (i.e. farmers) took an interest in them when they were eating their cucumbers plants.
Tentatively a Sweat and Furrow Bee (Halictinae)!
A blonde Salt Marsh Moth (Estigmene acrea) caterpillar! This species has a wide range of colors from blonde, brown to blackish!

Happy Halloween!

Goblin sharks, ghost crabs and vampire bats, oh my!

  1. I don’t remember ever seeing the Pollinator Ranch sign before. Is it new or am I embarrassingly unobservant?
