While at the symposium over the weekend, there were many wonderful presentations. Additionally Friday afternoon and evening were scheduled for the field trips. And who doesn’t like a field trip! My chosen afternoon field trip was a two part-er.
The first part of field trip was to the Lindheimer House. He was a noted Texas botanist. Hence you will find many plants were named after him.
The Master Gardeners are the caretakers of the garden around the house. FYI not all the current plants at the house are native. A Snowberry Clearwing (Hermaris diffinis) visited too.
Another plant at the garden, the Rock Rose (Pavonia lasiopetala) which is a native to the area!
Wow what beautiful seeds it has!
A Green Anole (Anolis carolinensis) on the fence paused for only a moment before racing off.
An insect slit in the stem of a Flame Acanthus.
A great ground cover, the tiny flowered Horseherb (Calyptocarpus vialis). However it was pretty sparse in the backyard.
A boot scraper near the back entrance. However I’m not sure if it was actually Ferdinand’s. The Lindheimer family owned and occupied the house for many years.
It had been an interesting first part to the afternoon field trip. Second half of the afternoon tomorrow.
