Ducking

Who can blame the creatures for avoiding me and the camera. Even though I try to tell them that fame and fortune will be theirs. 😉

On the fence!

Then the Showy Grasshopper (Hesperotettix speciosus) nymph decided they had enough of this photographer and ducked under the wire. 😉

Looking for signs of cats.

While there were no cats, this may have been the tiniest Jumping Spider (Phidippus). Ants were there too.

Still I was checking the Crotons for Goatweed Leafwing butterfly caterpillars.

Instead I found a Southern Black Widow (Latrodectus mactans)!

Furthermore she let me get close to see her eight eyes arranged in two rows!

And what the heck I stopped at the sunflower to find a leafhopper (Cicadellidae) nymph!
And the tad bigger Lace Bug (Tingidae)!

A spider’s nest in the nest box. No surprise there. LOL.
Then I shut the door and I saw the spider, a Jumping Spider (Phidippus texanus).
So I would open and shut the door. They kept scurrying to the other side out of sight.

Under the door.

Finally they paused on the outside. I parted with a thank you.

Time to go check more boxes…

  1. I’ve seen lots of spiders this year too. Love those jumping spiders and the look of a face on them.

      1. Mary, do they actually have 4 eyes, a pair of large ones and a pair of small ones? I love to just stare at them. Such cool characters.
