Birds, Here and There

With the cold weather birds have finally started visiting the feeders at our house.

Birds here…

Which is the real bird? LOL.

Hmmm, I don’t think it is real.
Definitely not. πŸ˜‰

Now that we have cut down some of the trees in our field we have started getting a few more meadowlarks again. However the sparrows are very sparse here and on the LBJ grasslands.
Since the American Goldfinches have come in numbers now the titmice aren’t coming as often. Or perhaps I am just noticing the Goldfinches more.

Birds there…

Where it there? Kathy’s house! She says she got tons of the White-crowned Sparrows. Moreover she must have them all because there certainly not many around in Wise County when I have been out.
A beautiful shot of a male Lessor Goldfinch! This is a common bird in the Hill Country. It would be rare to see one in North Texas area. Thanks Kathy!
Ok this is not a bird. But do you see the hole in the ground? And the frost crystals on the plants? A critter’s hot breath was the cause of the crystals! Great find Kathy!

Award-winning close-up photos show the hidden wonders of nature Thanks Suzanne!

  1. I love the lessor goldfinches in the hill country. First ones i had seen. Great pic Kathy. I had seen both articles. Thought i had sent to you awhile back. Love the hissing mushroom. Would love to hear one.

  2. One winter several years ago, I was astonished to see three lesser goldfinches in our yard! It’s never happened again, but is still nice to have the species on our yard list.

  3. I remember you telling us about them Suzanne! Really special.
Love your feeder hanger Mary. Especially with goldfinches sitting on it.
